Two men sought after shooting death

Two suspects were seen fleeing after a man was shot to death in a downtown apartment Tuesday night.
The victim, in his 20s, was shot twice in the chest and was pronounced dead at St. Michael’s Hospital following the shooting above a vacant store on Church St. south of Dundas St. E., about 9:30 p.m.

Several witnesses called police after hearing three gun shots and seeing two figures in dark hooded sweatshirts run from the back of the building.

One witness said he saw another man, who is believed to be a friend of the victim, stagger out onto Church St. and run back and forth calling for help. He flagged down a police cruiser at the intersection.

Police and paramedics found a wounded man in the upstairs apartment and the ambulance crew worked for about 15 minutes trying to revive him. Police say they took that man in for questioning.

Police canvassed the area where the two men were seen running. Surveillance videos at the rear of the building as well as cameras from an adjacent co-op building and nearby Ryerson campus, may have captured the pair in flight. This is Toronto’s 15th shooting homicide this year.
